Zambia pulled off the second surprise of the opening day of the Africa Cup of Nations, with a 2-1 defeat of many people’s third-favourites, Senegal.
Emmanuel Mayuka put Zambia ahead with a header following a free-kick in the 12th minute and Rainford Kalaba extended the lead with a clinical finish after 20 minutes.
First-half substitute Dame N’Doye pulled a goal back with neat control to collect a cross and hit a near-post finish in the 74th minute, but Senegal ran out of time to rescue a draw.
Group A continues with Libya v Zambia and Equatorial Guinea v Senegal on Wednesday. The matches in Group B start on Sunday, with Ivory Coast v Sudan and Burkina Faso v Angola.
