The Mo Ibrahim Foundation, founded and funded by Sudanese-born billionaire, Mohammed Ibrahim, has launched the Ibrahim Leadership Fellowships program.
The fellowship, which is a partnership with three multilateral organizations- the African Development Bank (AfDB), the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), and the World Trade Organization (WTO), will provide three ambitious African professionals with an opportunity to gain first-hand experience at the highest levels of the multilateral organizations and gain insights into the process of policy making.
This is precipitated by the lack of opportunities for aspiring leaders across Africa to gain critical experience at the highest levels of multilateral organisations, the Mo Ibrahim Foundation has worked with these partners to create the Fellowships. The AfDB, UNECA, and WTO will each host an Ibrahim Fellow in their executive offices. The expectation is that Ibrahim Fellows will go on to play a major role in the governance and development of the African continent.
Applicants must have the following minimum requirements:
- Must be nationals of an Africa country and must be in possession of a Master’s Degree.
- Men must be under 40 Years or 45 for women with children.
- Must be young professionals or new executives in their mid career with a proven work record of between 7 -10 years
The Mo Ibrahim Foundation will award annual grants of $100,000 to the three successful applicants. The fellows, who will be jointly selected by the three organizations and the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, will then be mandated to take part in a 12-month fellowship at one of the three organization.
The deadline for applications is 31 July 2011.
