This year’s 2010 World Expo is being held in Shanghai, China after the Chinese government officially won the bid on December 3, 2002.
The theme is Better City Better Life.
The idea of World Expositions is to showcase galleries of human inspirations and thoughts. Being the first World Exposition on the theme of city, Exposition 2010 has attracted governments and people from across the world, focusing on the theme “Better City, Better Life.” For its 184 days, participants will display urban civilisation to the full extent, exchange their experiences of urban development, disseminate advanced notions on cities and explore new approaches to human habitat, lifestyle and working conditions in the new century. They will learn how to create an eco-friendly society and maintain the sustainable development of human beings.
Zambia amongst other African countries has a pavilion and is showcasing its beautiful natural sceneries, challenges encountered during urbanization as well as the solutions, through exhibition of urban development practices and many other existing projects. Before the Expo started 37 days ago, I took a keen interest in the project liaising with Natalie Simakoloyi who is currently studying medicine and is part of the organising committee. We came up with a few t-shirt logos as seen below, however due to budget constraints this could not go ahead. Please note that these logos do not officially represent Zambia at the 2010 Shanghai Expo in anyway, they are just prototypes that could have been used had the funding been made available.
