.zm Server Appears to be Down.

As of writing this it appears that most Zambian websites that rely on the country’s top-level domain (.zm extension) are down. As frustrating as this can be it’s usually a temporary thing caused by several technical reasons. So if you’re greeted with the page:

Oops! This link appears to be broken.

just be patient!

Having said that, such disruptions have become a norm in Zambia and must not be tolerated. It’s quite a shame that a growing number of businesses that rely on Internet presence are subjected to such unanticipated disruptions. Just imagine what would happen if the .com domain crashed? There would be chaos! Businesses would come to a halt all over the world. And yet, in Zambia it’s not something that causes panic, which is worrying!

It is envisaged that the use of the .zm extension by both individuals and businesses creates uniform identity making it easier to share information with Zambians alike, however with such disruptions no wonder people opt for the .com domain. Not a bad thing at all, but with Zambia’s web presence still in infancy we need more subscriptions to the .zm extension – as a way to re-organise our web presence.

ZAMNET being the country’s code top-level domain registry is answerable to this. We appreciate that they have always done a good job, however we hope that this situation is improved on in the future.

Check out below some of the top Zambian websites affected:
